Strapping

Steel strapping (metal strap)

Tools for steel strapping, the strongest strapping solution for heavy loads, sharp edges and products that must not stretch.

Guide

When to choose steel strap

Steel (metal) strap is the strongest strapping solution: heavy loads, sharp edges, high temperatures or products that must not stretch, such as billets, profiles, coils and timber. It is available in carbon steel (painted or galvanized) and stainless steel.

It is applied with tensioning and sealing tools, manual or pneumatic. It is fixed with seals or, with some tools, by sealless joints made by cutting and folding the strap.

Mind safety: cut ends can spring back suddenly. Use safety glasses, gloves and suitable cutting tools.

Criteria

Steel, PET or PP

Extreme loads

Steel remains the choice for very heavy products where strap elongation is not allowed.

Sharp edges

Steel strap is not cut by the edge of the product, unlike plastic straps.

Harsh environment

Withstands high temperatures and weather, with the right steel grade.

When PET is enough

For many applications PET gives similar strength with safer handling and no rust.

FAQ

Questions about steel strapping

What thickness and width does steel strap have?

They are chosen by load and by tool. Check the width and thickness range accepted by the tool in its specifications.

Carbon or stainless steel?

Carbon steel, painted or galvanized, is usual in industry; stainless is chosen for corrosion or hygiene requirements.

Which tools do I use?

Manual tools for small volumes, pneumatic for high pace. Some seal without seals.

Can PET replace steel?

In many cases yes; steel remains for extreme loads and very sharp edges.
